We simply cannot continue to jam our 330-strong police force in a building built more than 35 years ago for half that number (160 people).
Some of our police administration staff are working out of converted closets.
Placing those protecting our families, homes, and businesses in a work environment showing excessive wear and tear from around-the-clock use, seven days a week since 1970 is not respectful.
We are unable to accommodate a growing and effective police force nor can we continue to attract top recruits. |
For half the cost of a new station, we can renovate an existing, centrally-located building (100,000+ sq. ft), relieve overcrowding, increase effectiveness, and help Waco attract the best and the brightest to our force.
Relocated facility will offer ample space to house forensic lab, crime scene unit, and other departments that were non-existent when current station was built.
Larger station will allow the department to centralize work units now scattered in various locations.
